The National Day of Prayer was observed in Stark County on Thursday at several events.
The events included a prayer breakfast in Jackson Township hosted by Habitat for Humanity of Stark & Carroll Counties; a Bible-reading marathon and noon-day program at the Stark County Courthouse park in downtown Canton; a gathering on the campus of Perry High School in Perry Township, and a worship service at Living Hope Christian Fellowship at 1620 Clark Ave. SW in Canton.
A law establishing the National Day of Prayer was signed by President Harry Truman in 1952.
Last month, a federal judge ruled that the event is unconstitutional; however President Barack Obama and members of Congress have voiced support that it continue.
The case is in appeal.
They included:
• A prayer breakfast in Jackson Township, hosted by Habitat for Humanity of Stark & Carroll Counties.
• A Bible-reading marathon and noon program at the Stark County Courthouse park in downtown Canton.
• A gathering at 6 Thursday on the campus of Perry High School in Perry Township.
• A worship service at 6:30 Thursday at Living Hope Christian Fellowship at 1620 Clark Ave. SW in Canton.
